Sausage with Braised Cabbage
Makes 4 servings
This delicious and hearty sausage recipe will brighten up the dinner table— and the faces of those around it! Naturally low in carbs, the dish is gluten-free. What’s the secret to this incredible sausage and cabbage recipe? The little bit of Worcestershire sauce, which turns an otherwise simple dinner into a flavorful party. Want even more excitement? Add a bit of paprika to shake up the dish even more and truly transform it into a sensational dinner.
INGREDIENTS
2 tbsp. olive oil, divided
2 lb. sausages (about 6–8), use your favorite kind
1 medium head green cabbage, chopped
1 red bell pepper, cut into large pieces
1 medium onion, chopped
2 carrots, chopped
2 garlic cloves, minced
2 tbsp. paprika (optional)
Salt, to taste
1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
1 cup water
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
2. In a large oven-proof skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of the olive oil over medium heat. Add the sausages and cook for about 3 minutes on each side, until golden. Transfer the cooked sausage to a plate and set aside.
3. Add the remaining tablespoon of oil to the pan and heat over medium heat. Add the cabbage, peppers, onions, carrots, garlic, paprika, if using, salt and Worcestershire sauce; then cover and cook, stirring occasionally, 5–7 minutes, until softened.
4. Return the sausage to the skillet, add water, and stir to mix. Cover with foil, transfer to the oven and bake for about 25 minutes, then remove the foil and cook for another 5 minutes. Serve hot.
